In the framework of the Franco-Qu\u00e9bec cooperation project The Gasp\u00e9\u2013Picardy for Photography, Rencontres is hosting French photographer Ambroise T\u00e9zenas<\/a> for a creative residency from June\u00a03 to 13, 2016. The artist intends working in the southwestern part of the Gasp\u00e9 region, between Nouvelle, Escuminac and Matapedia\u2013Les Plateaux.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Born in 1972, Ambroise T\u00e9zenas is a graduate of the \u00c9cole sup\u00e9rieure d\u2019arts appliqu\u00e9s in Vevey, Switzerland. Demonstrating a special interest in social and environmental subjects, he works essentially on questions relating to landscape, be it contemporary, urban or historical. A photographer and author, he has a number of works to his credit, among them <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>Tourisme de la desolation <\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>(Dark Tourism)<\/span><\/span><\/span>, published by Actes Sud in 2014.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a> His visit to the region is taking place as part of the France-Qu\u00e9bec exchange residency program, in which Qu\u00e9bec photographers Jessica Auer<\/a> and Normand Rajotte<\/a> are also participating. Hosted this past May by our partners from Diaphane\u2013P\u00f4le photographique en Picardie<\/a> and from the festival <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>Les Photaumnales<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><\/u><\/span><\/span> in Beauvais, Jessica Auer has taken an interest in the forests of Picardy as a \u201creference to the romantic qualities of the woods that captivated 19th-century landscape artists.\u201d Normand Rajotte, meanwhile, is in France right now, where he is developing a project on nature between the Hez-Froidmont Forest and the Sacy Marsh, in Picardy.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/a><\/a> The work of these three artists will be exhibited in the fall of 2016 as part of the festival Les Photaumnales in Beauvais, France, and in the summer of 2017 in the Gasp\u00e9, at the 8th edition of Rencontres.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
